Dear reader,
I know many spiritual doctrines emphasis transcendence, but I want to be in the dirt. I want to be tossed by the salty waves. I want to feel the shade of a wise tree. I want to hear eager birds chirping. I want to be in my body. I want to be here. I am here.
Grounding rituals aren’t just silent meditation. I meditate when I create magic. When I am at my most jaded, I do this found object ritual. If I can’t access magic within me I create it and share it. This is how I stay grounded so I know what I am loving enough to fight for.
Oligarchs tell us there just isn’t enough to go around, they don’t know even the driest soil can bear the sweetest fruit.
Want to try this meditation out?
Grab some twine/string/ribbon from home and go on a walk. Think about colors, textures, and elements you are drawn to. Collect as you smell, touch, hear, and see. Sit under the sun or moonlight as you bind them together using twine or thread. Slip your amulet into your pocket, wear it as a necklace, or tuck it in your bag. If you have an altar place it there.
**Bonus (if you resonate with crone/hag/trickster archetype: leaving the amulet somewhere so someone can find it. My favorite spots have been popular sand castles spots at the beach, benches on trails, and window sills at bookstores.
This is beautiful! Here-ness, grounding and physical sensation are foundational to my spirituality too. Gonna try this sometime soon <3
I love this idea! Creating it sounds like good medicine. Picking a spot to leave it as a magic collection for someone else to find sounds even better. What a perfect touch. Playful mediation that doesn’t take itself so seriously. Thanks for sharing your fun earthy ways.
